How to Reset a Passkey on Xbox One

Xbox One consoles including the Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and new Xbox One All-Digital Edition have the ability to require users to enter a passkey to authenticate gamertag ownership. Xbox Passkeys are made up of a combination of 6 button, dpad, bumper, or trigger inputs in a specific sequence. The inputs also correspond to numbers 0-9 for more ways to mix up the passkey pattern.

Unfortunately, sometimes you forget your passkey or it can get lost if it’s written down. Luckily, resetting your Xbox One Passkey is really easy and does so without compromising your security. To reset your Xbox Passkey simply try to sign in to your account, or if you’re already signed in, try to buy something or change an account setting in the settings menu. When the Passkey entry screen comes up, you will need to fail 3 times, now is a good time to guess what you think it might be. When you enter the wrong passkey the third time, you will be asked to enter the password for the Microsoft account that’s assigned to the gamertag. Once you enter the password for the Microsoft account, you will have the option to reset your Xbox One Passkey and change it to whatever you want going forward.

The good news is that this will reset your Xbox One Passkey, reset your Xbox One S Passkey, reset your Xbox One X Passkey, and reset your Xbox One All-digital Edition Passkey. For more info checkout the video below:
